ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Behind the strongest brands throughout our history, there is always a story. Ours is deeply rooted in Finnish heritage and the national character sisu – the Finnish mentality of stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, and resilience. The founder of The Free Finn, born in Sweden to Finnish parents, grew up with a deep sense of independence and a strong desire to explore and understand the world on their own terms. The first phrase our founder learned as a child was: "I can do it myself."

From a young age, our founder experienced the power of self-direction, the freedom it provides, and the value of reflection and recovery in solitude. One day, the path of our founder crossed with a Skydiver – and it was love at first sight! Skydivers, often people with a penchant for freedom and self-actualization, live in a world where courage, wisdom, and self-trust are crucial.

At The Free Finn, we want to convey these values through our necklace, encouraging you to explore your own strength, live freely and independently, and always strive for personal growth and, through that, contribute positively to the world around you. We want you to remember that even during life's difficult times, view challenges as opportunities for growth—it's part of life's journey. We encourage self-awareness, self-distance, and the courage to be both vulnerable and humble.

ABOUT OUR HANDCRAFTED THE FREE FINN NECKLACE

The Free Finn Necklace with the three pendants:

the closing pin, the moon, and our logo.

Every element in The Free Finn necklace is designed to carry a part of our soul and history and offers the wearer a sense of belonging to a community that values deep personal freedom and authenticity. The Free Finn exists within us all when we decide so.

One of the three pendants is inspired by the closing pin*, regarded by many skydivers as life-saving equipment and a recognition symbol for both those who have experienced a single skydive and those who have experienced thousands. For us at The Free Finn, the closing pin is also a symbol of independence. We strive to learn, avoid self-deception, and embrace self-awareness. On the closing, we have engraved "Sisu" as a reminder of the inner strength we all have in us.

The second pendant comes in the form of a full moon with the engraving "Free". The moon, with its phases of renewal and reflection, symbolizes our commitment to individual freedom and the ability to grow and change. The moon, as a constant companion in the sky, reminds us of the value of introspection and the constantly changing nature of our lives.

The third pendant is our logo with the symbolism from Kalevala's Swan of Tuonela, a strong symbol in Finnish mythology. It represents mysticism and the journey to the great unknown, a metaphor for life's journey and the discovery of personal freedom. It also symbolizes our love for Finnish nature, the land of a thousand lakes. Compass rose symbolizing Finnish resilience and the concept of self-reliance and freedom. This design merges the themes of navigation and personal identity, reinforcing the message of "The Free Finn.

*) Clarification of The Closing Pin The closing pin is an important part of the parachute safety system and is used to keep the main container closed until the parachute is to be used. When the pilot chute is thrown out and catches air, the closing pin is pulled out, releasing the main canopy from its container. This simple, but critical piece of equipment is regarded by many skydivers as a symbol of the sport and has come to carry a deeper meaning of self-sufficiency and community among skydivers.
